Tasman Glacier Snow Shoeing Trips

We have created a beautiful one day expedition to this remarkable destination and made it available for the adventurous at heart. Fly with your guide to the famous Tasman Glacier by either helicopter or the famous Mount Cook Ski Planes. At over 7000ft or 2200 metres, enjoy spectacular views of the east faces of Aoraki Mount Cook and the vast expanse of glacial terrain this national park has to offer.


 

From here we'll teach you some basic skills, then head off on an adventure trekking down the easy gradient of the Tasman Glacier. Along the way we'll visit ice caves and view some very big crevasses and thundering ice falls. We'll be trekking through spectacular icefalls. It is stunning scenery and an unforgettable day out. Lunch is included. Bring your camera!!!!!

At the end of the day it's another spectacular scenic flight back to Mount Cook airport and then we return to The Old Mountaineers' for some well-earned refreshments.

Cost - $625 per person (minimum numbers required) Cost includes 2 scenic ski planes flights, snow shoes, overboots and safety equipment. You'll need to bring your warm clothing and wind proof gear. Bring some energy snack food too.


 

Heli Climbing

It works like this:

Southern Alps Guiding has several one day heli climbing days for all abilities. If you have time considerations and want to squeeze in a great climb before leaving Mt Cook then check this out!!!

Climbs that can be done: Mt Sefton 3151 metres - Fly in and out to climb this big 3000 metre giant. Cost on application.

Mt Dixon - at 3004 metres this is a true classic peak in the Grand Plateau area. Fly in and out. Cost on application.

Nuns Veil - at 2749 metres. A great peak to climb when the weather is not so good on the main divide. $1400 one person, $750 pp for two people. Cost includes 2 helicopter flights - in and out, guide fee, lunch and climbing gear. Boots can be rented.

Ball Pass - This is a classic one day Alpine Trek and takes in some of the most spectacular scenery in NZ. Views of the Caroline Face of Aoraki Mt Cook are awe-inspiring. Fly in and trek out down the famous Ball glacier and ridge. Price:

Mt Edgar Thompson. A great day out and a perfect training day for future climbing trips.

Cost is $850 one person and $580 per person for 2 people. This includes a helicopter flight in, guide fee, lunch in the mountains, ice axe, crampons, harness and helmet. Climbing boots can be rented if required. You'll need warm clothing and wind proof jacket and pants.
